Menlo Park considers renewing contract to keep red light cameras installed. Monte Francis reports.
In the past five months, Hayward, Redwood City and Belmont have all opted out of their contracts with Redflex Holdings, an Australian-based company that provides red light camera technology.
The cities decided that the cameras did not improve safety, and were responding to a public outcry from angry drivers who had received a near $500 ticket.
But Menlo Park on Tuesday night considered a staff recommendation to renew its contract with Redflex, claiming that accidents at the intersections with the cameras had decreased since the cameras were installed in 2008.
