Silicon Valley's landscape continues to change, with the San Jose Mercury News selling its headquarters building to Supermicro Computer, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper plans to move 300 employees to a new site somewhere in Silicon Valley following the sale of 750 Ridder Park Drive for $30.5 million.
The building, 312,000 square feet on 36 acres, has room for more than 1,000 employees. It was built in 1967 for $1 million, the newspaper reported.
The Ridder Park location no longer prints or produces the 10 daily newspapers in the Bay Area News Group chain: that's done in Concord, Hayward and Vacaville.
Mayor Chuck Reed praised the sale and expressed hope that BANG would return "to its roots" and open up an office in downtown San Jose.
