Michelle Obama Is Coming to the Bay Area

It's no secret that the Bay Area is a Democratic stronghold.

But when the party of President Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi needs to raise money, the Bay Area is one of the first stops on the tour.

Next month is no exception. First Lady Michelle Obama will be in the Bay Area in June to raise money for the Democratic Party ahead of next year's election.

Details of the First Lady's stop are minimal at this point but White House sources told the San Jose Mercury News that Mrs. Obama will host fundraisers in the City and the East Bay.

The visit comes just two months after Mr. Obama visited the Bay Area to raise money for his re-election campaign and just eight months after the First Lady was last here raising money for the Democrats.

In April, the president held a town hall forum at Facebook before heading to the City to take part in a $38,500 a plate dinner at the home of Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff.

The Bay Area has helped the president and his party outpace the Republicans in the early fundraising season.

In the first month of Obama's re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee raised about twice as much money as the Republicans.

The DNC collected $12.4 million in April, according to the Associated Press. That is more than double the $6.1 million raised by the Republican National Committee during the same month.

Through the end of April, the DNC reported it had $14.8 million on hand while the Republicans were holding $5 million.

But the Bay Area has not been off limits to the Republicans. Speaker of the House John Boehner held a fundraiser for his party in San Francisco earlier this month.

In fact, Boehner was bold enough to hold the event at the same hotel that Mrs. Obama used to raise money for her party last October.

Eating with Mr. Boehner was also a bargain when compared to the president. The Republican leader only charged $25,000 to share a meal with him
