$1 Million Ticket Bought on Morning Run

Buying two lottery scratchers was the daily routine for the Nguyen family in Oakland - until it wasn't.

The latest  $1 million dollar winning lottery ticket was purchased on a morning run.

Hoa Nguyen of Oakland says her husband buys her two Scratcher tickets every day and on one recent day she scratched off six zeros, which meant she was a big winner.

She told lottery officials she didn't believe she really had won until she brought the ticket to the East Bay District office for verification.

Sure enough, Nguyen had won $1 million.

Nguyen, who is a mother of two, says she will use the money to take her family on vacation to Vietnam to visit her mother. It will be the first time the mother and daughter have seen each other in five years.

The ticket was purchased at Thanh Thuy Deli in Oakland. Workers there told NBC Bay Area they were not aware they had a winner. It's good news for the owners who will receive $5,000 for selling the winning ticket.

This is the second East Bay lottery winner this month. Early in September, a Fremont couple - Marita and Bladimir Agnite - won $52 million in the MEGA Millions game. The couple didn't know they had won such a massive amount of money until a relative saw some raw surveillance video of Bladimir buying a ticket at the Kwik & Convenient Liquor Mart in Fremont on the news.
