Milpitas Police Patrol Vehicle Stolen in San Jose

Another driver was carjacked as the suspect fled police, authorities said.

Milpitas police say a marked patrol vehicle was stolen before the suspect carjacked another vehicle Wednesday morning.

The Milpitas officer whose vehicle was stolen was in San Jose checking out a suspicious vehicle report when it was taken, in the area of Oakland Road and Montague Expressway, near the Milpitas border, Lt. Raj Maharaj said.

The thief abandoned the patrol car in the 1600 block of Main Street in Milpitas then forced the driver of a 1997 Toyota RAV4 to give up her vehicle, police said. The suspect then fled into San Jose.

Authorities were able to use GPS to recover the patrol, undamaged and with nothing missing from inside, authorities said.

Police said they were still looking for a suspect who is described as in his early 30s, standing 5-foot-11, 230 pounds, with prescription eyeglasses. He was wearing a black Carhartt jacket, authorities said.
