If you've ever drawn the ire of a cable car conductor, you know how embarrassing it can be.

If you live in San Francisco, it may have been a while since you last rode a cable car.

Thankfully, Muni Diaries has a refresher on cable car etiquette.

For instance, the bell isn't just there to keep the tourists entertained:

"If you hear two bells, the cable car is about to stop. One bell it’s ready to go."

Other suggestions include a yes for cameras and a no for nattering on your cell phone.

But mostly, be nice to the tourists. After all, San Francisco needs their hard currency now more than ever.

Jackson West loves to be the gloating local on the Powell-Mason line.
