Minor Smoke Reported From Escalator At Macy's Union Square

Minor smoke was reported coming from an escalator inside the Macy's Union Square store on O'Farrell Street in downtown San Francisco Sunday morning, but there were flames and no ordered evacuations, a city fire official said.

The San Francisco Fire Department responded at around 11 a.m. to a report about smoke from an engine inside an escalator in the interior of Macy's at 170 O'Farrell St. next to Union Square Park, the official said.

The emission of smoke was minor with no fire and the situation did not call for removing people from inside the store, the official said.

A spokeswoman for Macy's in the Human Resources Department said the store would not be commenting on the incident.
