Missing Plane Found Near Airport

The search for a pilot last seen leaving the Half Moon Bay airport comes to sad conclusion.

A group searching for a missing plane last seen leaving the Half Moon Bay airport early Monday found wreckage Tuesday. They found a body inside, according to the San Mateo County sheriff.

The Chronicle is reporting a park ranger reported finding a wrecked plane Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. near Ocean Boulevard and Bernal Avenue just outside Moss Beach. That is about 400 yards west of the airport.

The search by land and sea had been taking place ever since a woman called to report her husband had not landed in Arizona as planned late Monday.

The U.S. Coast Guard had been searching the waters off the San Mateo County coast overnight.

The single-engine Aeropro CZ A240 departed for Marana, Ariz., at about 5:50 a.m. Monday, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

 No passengers were on board.
