MonkeyParking Returns to San Francisco After 2014 Standoff

MonkeyParking is back after a 2014 standoff with the City of San Francisco that sent the app packing.

The app that matches drivers with available parking spaces withdrew business after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera in June 2014. Herrera said the app was illegal because it attempted to lease public parking spots.

SFGate reported that MonkeyParking relaunched in San Francisco as a beta service earlier this month. But the app's model has changed in a key way that no longer doles out public parking spaces; instead, it's now focused on renting out spaces on private property like driveways.
