If you are interested in volunteering for Rio, mark your calendars because those Games start in exactly 895 days--and more than 60,000 volunteers will be needed.

Among the unsung heroes at the Olympics are the thousands of volunteers who are tasked with an array of responsibilities that help the Games run smoothly.

They are 25,000 volunteers in Sochi, hailing from all over the world--123 from the United States. The vast majority of them at these Games are Russian.

Volunteers had to pay their own way to Sochi, but organizers provided the uniform, housing and three meals a day.

Although the volunteer registration process is not yet open for the 2016 Games, people can sign up for newsletters and get information at the Rio 216 web site.
