Motorcycle Rider Killed in Early AM Accident

The California Highway Patrol says a woman driving a Honda Accord fell asleep during her early morning commute and created a string of accidents that left a motorcyclist dead.

The accident occurred just after 5am Thursday morning.  The Honda skidded across all lanes of Highway 101, coming to rest near the median close to the Dore Avenue exit in San Mateo.  The CHP says several Good Samaritans exited their cars and tried to flag down oncoming traffic.

At some point, say officers, the motorcyclist came upon the scene.  Exactly what happend then is not clear, but the driver lost control and fell off his bike in the slow lane.  Police have not named the driver.  He or she was declared dead on the scene.

Traffic cleared around 7:15am.
