Mountain Lion Struck, Killed by Mercury Cougar in Los Altos

California Highway Patrol officers are keeping an eye on the body of a mountain lion hit and killed by a car on a freeway in the South Bay.

It happened around 6:30 Monday morning on Interstate 280, just south of Magdalena Avenue in Los Altos.

The driver was not hurt, but his Mercury Cougar suffered some damage to the front end.

The mountain lion, which weighed about 200 pounds, was moved off the roadway and hidden.

Fish and Game officials are worried someone may come and steal the body to use it as a trophy.
