Mountain View Man Guilty Of Smuggling Heroin in Tortilla Press

Feds arrested man who accepted shipment of heroin from Mexico

A Mountain View man faces 10 years to life in prison for receiving a shipment of black tar heroin hidden in a tortilla press.

Mike Gama, 23, was found guilty Tuesday in federal court for accepting a package on June 20, 2011. The package was shipped from Michoacan, Mexico, via DHL, according to the San Jose Mercury News. It contained a wooden tortilla press -- and 1.07 kilograms of black tar heroin, according to the federal Justice Department.

The DHL package was sniffed out by federal agents first in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then in San Jose. Agents were ready to swoop once Gama signed for the package.

He'll be sentenced April 15 to a maximum of life in prison and a 10-year mandatory minimum.
