Muralist, 22, Paints Towering Images in San Francisco

Layla Skramstad is one of a host of emerging  artists making a splash in the vibrant art scene in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Just 22 years old and graduating from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco on Saturday, she has already completed a number of  massive mural projects around the city, the largest of which towers nine stories into the sky.

From working high above the city in the cold and wind, to street level with all its attendant characters, to spending more than two months prone under the ceiling of the Gold Dust Lounge near Fisherman’s Wharf, photojournalist Steve Field visited with her recently to gain a little insight into the passion that drives Skramstad’s  achievements.
