NBA Finals Game 7 Ticket Prices Averaging over $2,700: Report

Tickets for Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals at Oakland's Oracle Arena between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers go on sale Friday at warriors.com, Warriors' officials said.

Tickets for season ticket holders go on sale at 10 a.m., while tickets for the team's Season Ticket Priority Wait List members go on sale at noon. Tickets for American Express cardholders and Warriors Insiders go on sale at 3 p.m. and the general public can buy tickets starting at 5 p.m.

Fans who join the Season Ticket Holder Priority Wait List or the Warriors Insiders today will also be able to buy tickets for Game 7 before the public, team officials said.

With the NBA finals tied at 3-3 between the Warriors and the Cavaliers, the Bay Area’s craze to win is higher than ever. However, according to some reports, the surge in fandom has caused ticket prices to boom to their highest cost — with the most expensive ticket currently listed for Game 7 at over $60,000.

The average list price for Game Seven on TiqIQ, a resale ticket market aggregator, is $2,792.14, a price almost $1,000 dollars higher than the average cost of tickets in both the 2010 and 2013 NBA finals. The Warriors ticket expenses have even surpassed the fee of Super Bowl tickets in 2010, 2013 and 2014. NBA finals tickets from 2012 to 2014 averaged around $550, but it was last year’s finals where the prices hit four digits.

Chris Matcovich, VP of Data and Communications at TiqIQ, believes the massive increase in price is due to the matchup between Steph Curry and LeBron James and the popularity of the Warriors. “A do or die with Steph Curry and LeBron James definitely gets everyone a bit excited,” Matcovich said. “Secondly, the Warriors were the highest resale price in the NBA during the regular season with an average of over $400. So it’s not a huge surprise that tickets for their final game would be so much.”

Dedicated Warriors fans are trying to find their strength in numbers in their push for the win. Unsurprisingly, most of the ticket sales on TiqIQ have been coming from California, with only 15 percent of traffic from the state of Ohio.

The current get in price for Game 7 is $1,029, with about 4,100 tickets still available on TiqIQ. According to Matcovich, prices for any future games are expected to drop due to the current quantity available and the level of demand.
