NBC Bay Area Wins AP Awards in Digital, Broadcast Reporting

Robert Handa won the prestigious “Reporter of the Year”

San Jose-based NBC Bay Area (KNTV) has won 2015 Associated Press Television and Radio Association honors in digital and broadcast reporting categories.

Robert Handa won the prestigious “Reporter of the Year” award in the annual APTRA contest, which comprises radio and television stations in 13 western states.

APTRA President John Zuchelli, who also works at KNTV but was not involved in the judging, said, “It was a very tough competition with entries from all over the western states."

KNTV’s won in these categories:

  • Best Use of Social Media – NBC Bay Area staff
  • Best News Website – NBC Bay Area staff
  • Best Coverage of an Ongoing Story - “Hospital Plan: Critical Condition” – reporter Robert Handa and photographer Ted Case
  • Reporter of the Year - Robert Handa

In other company awards, KNBC in Los Angeles won for best investigative reporting, best sports segment, best editing and best special program. KCRA in Sacramento won for best weather segment and best spot news story.
