NBC Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel to Give Stanford Commencement Speech

Almost 20 years after graduating from Stanford University, Richard Engel will be back -- this time delivering the commencement address, according to report.

Engel, a foreign correspondent for NBC and a 1996 graduate of the university, will give the June speech, the university announced Monday.

Engel moved to Cairo after his time in Palo Alto. He was in Baghdad for the entirety of the 2003 war against Iraq, according to the university.

Later, he was kidnapped in Syria and "psychologically tortured for five days," according to reports.

Will he discuss that experience? Possibly, he said in a statement. He'll discuss "what I've seen and learned over the years," according to Bay Area News Group.
