NFC Championship Game Leads to Quirky Bet

Seems like everyone is trying to get in on the hype of this Sunday's 49er Falcon game

Sports and betting goes together like mustard and ketchup, so it should not be surprising that this Sunday's NFC Championship game between the Falcons and the 49ers has sparked a few friendly wagers.

One of them is between the cities that host the teams training facilities.

The mayor of Santa Clara is facing off against the mayor of Flowery Branch, Georgia.

What thing of value does Flowery Branch have to offer you may ask? Well Flowery Branch has the largest manufacturing plant for the Wrigley's gum company. So, with that, Mayor Mike Miller says he will give a case of gum to Santa Clara if the 49ers win.

Santa Clara is countering with a basket of Peanuts character plush toys and bobbleheads in honor of California's Great America theme park.

The mayors also did a bit of trash talking.

"It may seem ironic to send 'peanuts' to Georgia, but I don't think Flowery Branch is going to get the gift. Like Lucy, the 49ers are going to snatch the ball away from the Falcons and take it into the end zone," Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews said. "I'm looking forward to doubling the pleasure and doubling the fun of the Super Bowl with a victory stick of Wrigley gum."

"Santa Clara will have a lot to chew on when the 49ers lose on Sunday, but it won't be with our gift of gum. We may be known for southern hospitality, but the 49ers are not going to like the welcome they receive on the field of the Georgia Dome," Miller countered.

Both mayors have also agreed to wear the opposing team's jersey to the next City Council meeting if their team loses.
