UPDATE 8/27/2014: The Treasure Island Development Authority disclosed the locations of the residences where Navy contractors found elevated levels of radiation. They include an occupied residence at 1240-D Northpoint Dr. and a storage shed behind an occupied residence at 1241-B Northpoint Dr. As the Investigative Unit reported in July, the Navy also found elevated levels of radiation at a vacant residence at 1303-F Gateview Ave. TIDA says that none of the findings present a health hazard to residents.
The Navy has confirmed that it found elevated levels of radiation in or near three residences on Treasure Island, but says the findings are below a level considered to be a health concern.
According to a Navy presentation provided to the Investigative Unit by a Treasure Island resident, the newly detected levels were discovered in the living room of an occupied apartment unit and an outdoor storage shed next to an occupied residence. Navy officials would not disclose the specific addresses.
NBC Bay Area reported last month that Navy surveyors found elevated levels of radiation in Unit F of 1303 Gateview Ave. According to the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA), the agency overseeing the economic development of the formal naval station, the housing unit was last occupied in August 2009.
Surveyors began testing apartment units on Treasure Island for radiation in June, six months after the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit uncovered a report showing that another unoccupied housing unit on Treasure Island located at 1101 Bigelow Court also registered elevated radiation readings. The Navy also said public pressure from residents contributed to its decision to survey all of the homes on the island.

The Navy reports that it tested 794 residential units and garages over 50 full days. The Navy says that residents were notified of the survey results and health risk assessment by a letter from TIDA.
