Netflix has confirmed it will begin airing an original TV series starring Kevin Spacey, reports Venture Beat.

Under the deal, Netflix will stream "House of Cards," a political drama which will be directed by David Fincher, and starring Spacey.

The show will be offered exclusively on the streaming entertainment service, and could change the TV game entirely, making Netflix not just a distribution outlet for shows and movies, but a producer as well.

To put it into perspective, HBO has close to 28 million subscribers. Netflix has more than 20 million. This puts Netflix in a position to disrupt traditional movie and TV providers.

"House of Cards" is based on a book and BBC miniseries of the same name.

Netflix has committed to 26 episodes.
