Netflix Inks BBC to Streaming Deal

Los Gatos company makes push to add content ahead of British launch.

Netflix is preparing for its British invasion by adding new content ahead of its launch next year.

The Los Gatos entertainment rental company announced it has inked BBC Worldwide to its lineup.

The move will allow Netflix to stream classic BBC shows such as "Fawlty Towers" and "Little Britain."

"BBC shows are a big favourite of our over 20 million streaming members in the U.S., Canada and Latin America," Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, said in a statement. "Members love watching back-to-back episodes of BBC series where and when they want, at the click of a button. We are incredibly proud to make these high quality programmes available to Netflix members in the UK and Ireland."

But the contract, which was signed for an undisclosed amount, will not allow Netflix users to do anything but stream the shows.
