A 41-year-old man found dead in some bushes near a San Mateo shopping center Sunday morning appears to have taken his own life, a police captain said Tuesday.
The death of Jack Quon, whose body was discovered around 8 a.m. in the bushes in the unit block of Bovet Road near the Borel Square Shopping Center, was initially investigated as a homicide but authorities have since concluded it was a suicide, San Mateo police Capt. Kevin Raffaelli said.
Quon reportedly mailed a letter to a family member Saturday that explained his intent to end his life. Authorities this morning confirmed Quon wrote the letter and officially deemed his death a suicide, according to Raffaelli.
Quon was last seen leaving 24-Hour Fitness between midnight and 2 a.m. His body wasn't found for several hours. People on the scene said it appeared he had been stabbed.
