Notorious California Graffiti Suspect Arrested

A notorious graffiti suspect whose tags have defaced freeways, buildings and fences from Bakersfield all the way up to Seattle has been arrested in Sonoma County.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported Thursday that 21-year-old Derek Murphy was taken into custody this week after sheriff's deputies served a search warrant at his home in Petaluma.

Authorities say they seized sketch books, photos and digital cameras. Investigators say the evidence points to Murphy as a suspect behind the tag "BERG,'' spotted up and down the west coast.

Murphy was booked on multiple felony charges, including vandalism, burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. His bail is set at $5,000.

It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer.
