OPD Take One Man into Custody After Girl, 7, Shot

Oakland police detained seven people on Tuesday afternoon after a 7-year-old girl was shot a day before, but after a brief lineup only took one man into custody.

It was not immediately clear if that one man was formally connected to the shooting, which was reported  2:22 p.m. in the 2300 block of 65th Avenue. But police did say that there was a warrant for someone inside the house, though the reason was not made public.

Police told NBC Bay Area they were trying to determine why this house may have been targeted and who the shooters had really been after.

The girl's wounds were not considered too serious, but the daytime shooting and the age of the girl are considered brazen by any means.

Police first reported that the girl was 8, but on Tuesday, they corrected themselves.

The arrests were made at the same home where the girl was shot.
