OPD Gives Common Sense Warning

Oakland police are reminding people to be cautious when using Craigslist and other online shopping sites because of a recent spate of violent robberies that have taken place after shoppers respond to fake ads.

Police say several robberies at gunpoint have taken place this month after victims were lured by the fake ads.

Police are offering tips for safer shopping. Authorities say to make sure to meet a seller in highly populated ares; to not bring large amounts of cash; and to leave if something or someone looks suspicious.

Police urge anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigation Section.
