Oakland Apartment Fire Displaces 8 Residents

A two-alarm fire displaced all eight residents of a 4-unit East Oakland apartment building Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire in the 2600 block of Havenscourt Boulevard was reported at 3:43 p.m., according to the fire department.

Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the building's basement and it took crews about an hour to bring it under control.

The fire extended into one of the two apartments on the first floor, but because the gas and electric had to be turned off for the whole building, all six adults and two children who live there were displaced, Battalion Chief James Bowron said.

The Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents, Bowron said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
