Oakland Markets Itself to Citizens of Sacramento: Come Be “Cool”

Oakland, with its bay breezes and Bay cool, may appeal to too-hot Sacramento

Be cool.

And be cool in Oakland.

Oakland's visitors bureau is marketing itself as the cool destination for summer, according to the Sacramento Business Journal -- and with its target market the sweltering Sacramento area, Oakland may be onto something.

Ads proclaiming that "Summer is Cool in Oakland" will appear in Sacramento through September. Sacramento is already experiencing 100-degree heat, the newspaper noted, so sweating citizens may need little convincing.

Oakland is packaging travel with Amtrak's Capital Corridor line, which can drop people off at the O.co Coliseum for A's games, and the city is also promoting its lineup of festivals, including Art & Soul and Pride in the fall.
