At first, officers didn't find anything suspicious at the home on Athol Avenue. It wasn't until a second visit on Friday night that officers found the dead man and woman inside the vehicle.

Oakland police found two dead bodies in a vehicle near Lake Merritt Friday after a concerned employer noticed one of the victims didn't show up to work, according to the Oakland Police Department.

A man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene in what police are calling a double homicide.

The concerned employer called the police around 3:30 p.m. and asked them to check in on the missing employee at his home.

When officers got to the 200 block of Athol Avenue they spoke with someone there, but nothing seemed suspicious so they left.

Around 9:30 p.m., police got another call about the missing employee. Then officers went back to the home on Athol Avenue and found two dead bodies inside a vehicle there.

Police detained one person of interest in the case.

About 10 minutes before police found the two bodies, there was a fatal shooting on the 800 block of Center Street. Christian Dixon, a 19-year-old Oakland resident, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and died at the hospital.

Anyone with information on this ongoing investigation can contact the investigators at (510) 238- 3326.
