Oaksterdam University Executive Spearheads Proposed Marijuana Legalization Ballot Measure in 2016

Oaksterdam University executive director Dale Sky Jones leads a marijuana legalization coalition aiming to get a measure on the 2016 ballot.

The coalition, called ReformCA, is proposing a measure that will control, tax, and regulate recreational marijuana, Sky Jones said in a press conference, according to San Jose Mercury News.

Main points on the ReformCA website declare that the measure could create thousands of jobs, restrict teen access, help to fund public services, and hurt drug cartel sales.

The website claims to have 60,000 pledged supporters on an email list, but Sky Jones said in the press conference that it's now closer to 70,000 supporters. The coalition will need 365,000 signatures to land the proposition on the ballot.

Federal officials raided Oaksterdam University, a cannabis college that has been in business since 2007, in 2012, and ultimately charged a KPFA journalist for shoving a federal agent.
