Off-Duty Bay Area Law Enforcement Officer Shoots, Kills Alleged Burglar

A suspect in a home invasion robbery Wednesday morning in Alameda is dead following a shooting involving an off-duty Contra Costa County sheriff's deputy, an Alameda police lieutenant said.

The home invasion was first reported at 10:44 a.m. in the 2000 block of Buena Vista Avenue, Lt. Jill Ottaviano said.

Residents were asked to shelter in place until officers determined no other suspects were in the area.

Another suspect may still be at large, Ottaviano said.

Officers were at the scene collecting evidence and investigating the case Tuesday afternoon, she said.

Police have asked people who live in the neighborhood to shelter in place and asked drivers to avoid the area.

The deputy was not injured.
