Two Suspects Arrested, Third Being Investigated in Connection With Shooting at Off-Duty Oakland Police Officer

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with shooting at an off-duty Oakland police officer as he drove on Interstate 880 on Wednesday night, police said.

A third person has been arrested for unrelated offenses and is considered a person of interest in the case, according to police. The suspects' names have not yet been released.

The officer, who wasn't injured, was driving south on I-880 near the 16th Avenue exit at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday when someone started shooting at his vehicle, police said.

The officer's vehicle was struck by gunfire but the officer himself wasn't hit, according to police.

Patrol officers located the suspects' vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the vehicle's driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued that went into East Oakland, police said.

The suspects' vehicle was later found abandoned in the 5700 block of Brookdale Avenue, but the suspects weren't found at that time, according to police.

The investigation into the shooting remains under investigation and the case later will be forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for review and possible charges, police said.
