Oakland Man Shot 3 Times in Upper Body by Police: Woman

Oakland police were called to the scene of an officer-involved shooting Friday morning where a woman said a man who is her cousin was shot three times after he was holding a knife that he wouldn't put down.

The shooting took place about 9:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of 88th Avenue at G Street, police said.

The condition of the person shot was not immediately known. But a woman who described herself as the man's cousin, whom she called "Corey," said he was shot in the upper body three times.

"He had a knife and I guess he wouldn't put the knife down," Jenaeya Paul-Taylor said. Then, in the same breath, she added that her cousin wasn't harming anybody. She wondered why the police didn't Tase him.

She said she was angry, but not suprised. "This is what they do," she said of police officers.

Police were not immediately available to confirm her account.
