Officer Shoots Self at Arrest Scene

A Santa Clara County probation officer was injured during an arrest of a suspect wanted on a felony warrant, according to a release from the San Jose Police Department.

The officer was not involved in the actual arrest -- which was handled by SJPD -- but was present. The officer's gun "had an accidental discharge" causing a non-life threatening injury to himself.

The SJPD had arrested a man wanted on a $1 million felony warrant for firearms violations, according to the release.

The department was assisting a Gilroy Police Department investigation. The suspect was in San Jose's jurisdiction. At about 8:05 p.m. a covert response team stopped the suspect on Highway 17, south of The Summit.
