Man, 45, Dies in Crash on Highway 4 in Pittsburg: CHP

A 45-year-old man died Sunday when his pickup truck veered off the freeway, rolled over several times and struck a tree in Pittsburg, the California Highway Patrol said.

Emergency crews responded to the crash on eastbound Highway 4 at Loveridge Road in Pittsburg about 4:50 p.m., according to Contra Costa fire officials. Upon arrival, they found a man inside an overturned Nissan Titan suffering major trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

Witnesses told the CHP they saw the truck traveling on eastbound Highway 4 at a high rate of speed. The truck then made an unsafe turn, and the driver lost control, veering across all lanes of the freeway and onto the right shoulder, the CHP said.

There, the vehicle struck a curb, went through a fence, rolled over several times and crashed into a tree, the CHP said.

It was not known whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision.
