Man Killed Outside Hotel Near San Francisco International Airport

A man was shot and killed outside a hotel in Burlingame on Sunday morning, marking the city's first homicide of 2016, police said.

Officers arrived at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport Hotel located at 1333 Old Bayshore Highway around 5:45 a.m. and found a man injured with a gunshot wound. The victim was lying in the sidewalk area of the hotel driveway, police said.

First responders tried to save the man, but were unsuccessful, police said.

Lt. Jay Kiely said police do not believe the victim, in his late 20s, was a guest at the hotel but rather was visiting someone at the hotel. Investigators believe the man was targeted.

Kiely added that police are exploring to see if the shooting was gang related.

Many guests were coming and going at the Hyatt during a tattoo convention Sunday. But investigators do not believe there is a connection between the shooting and the convention.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family, police said. No arrest was made in the shooting, and a suspect was not identified.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Burlingame police at (650) 777-4100.
