A 17-year-old Richmond boy died Sunday when a friend's car slammed into his during an illegal street race on wet roads, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Pablo Lopez-Jaime was racing his BMW with two other passengers on the Richmond Parkway at 1:15 a.m. Sunday when his friend, Israel Gomez, 21, lost control of his Nissan Altima. The Nissan skidded and struck the BMW, which then flipped over multiple times and landed in a ditch, according to police.
Lopez-Jaime was killed and his two unidentified passengers, a male and a female, were seriously injured, according to reports.
Gomez was not seriously injured. He was taken into police custody after telling authorities a third car had caused the accident before admitting they had been racing. He was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to reports.
