Only Minor Injuries After Truck Overturns in 12-Vehicle Collision on I-880 Ramp to Bay Bridge

A truck overturned early Friday spreading a drywall mix across four lanes on the Bay Bridge, and, just as that cleared, a 12-car pile-up brought drivers to a halt on I-880. Ian Cull reports. (Published Friday, Dec. 18, 2015)

Only minor injuries were reported Friday morning in a collision involving 12 vehicles on the northbound Interstate Highway 880 connector to the westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge in Oakland, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

One person was trapped in the collision that involved a truck on top of another vehicle and two box trucks, CHP officer Eric Anderson said.

All lanes of the connector opened at 11:30 a.m., CHP officials said.

The first report of the collision came in at 9:35 a.m. and a traffic alert was issued at 9:53 a.m., Anderson said.
