Precisely one week after taking a loss in San Francisco Superior Court, the Mission Bay Alliance on Monday filed an appeal to continue its fight against the sports/entertainment complex proposed by the Warriors in San Francisco.
The MBA, a group of well-funded donors and employees affiliated with University of California at San Francisco medical center, has promised to litigate the proposal “until the cows come home” and is showing no sign of retreat.
A three-member panel of judges will review the MBA’s allegations that the Warriors and the City of SanFrancisco rubber-stamped the environmental impact report. The MBA’s challenge is based on the increased traffic in the immediate area of the UCSF medical center in China Basin, roughly four blocks south of AT&T Park.
Accompanying the MBA in its lawsuit are the transit advocacy group SaveMuni and Jennifer Wade, the parent of a UCSF cancer patient.
The appeal came hours before the afternoon deadline and is in response to the ruling last week by Superior Court Judge Garrett Wong, who upheld the EIR process being challenged by the MBA.
Wong’s ruling cleared the way for the Warriors to proceed with the $1 billion project. The franchise has stated its goal is to open the complex in the fall of 2019.
