Oregon Wildfires Impact Bay Area Air Quality

Bay Area under health advisory because of smoke from fires in Oregon

Some of the smoky looking air here in the Bay Area is coming from wildfires in southern Oregon.

The smoke from the fire was enough to impact some people who complained of a scratchy throat or itchy eyes.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District put the Bay Area under a health advisory.

It says air quality is on track to reach unhealthy levels.

The fires, which are burning in southern Oregon, have burned 13,400 acres, or nearly 21 square miles.

Residents of 75 houses have been advised to leave as firefighters try to get a handle on a crop of wildfires touched off by lightning.

Lightning late last week touched off dozens of fires in southern Douglas County. Most of the small ones were contained, but some merged into larger fires.

The fires are only 2 percent contained.
