Oscar Grant's Life to Become a Movie

Oscar winner Octavia Spencer could play Grant's mother.

The life of Oscar Grant and the controversy surrounding his death are set to be told by Hollywood.

Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is in talks to play the mother of 22-year-old African-American man, who was shot and killed by a police officer on a BART platform on New Year's Day 2009, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The role of Grant may be played by Michael B. Jordan, who has appeared in shows such as "Parenthood" and "Friday Night Lights."

Both actors are reportedly still in negotiations.

The movie is being produced by Forest Withaker and Nina Yang and the screenplay is being written and directed by newcomer Ryan Coogler.

The movie, entitled "Fruitvale," could begin shooting in the Bay Area as early as this summer.
