Overtime Police Patrols Help Stop Burglaries in San Jose's Evergreen

The San Jose Police Department's efforts to curb burglaries in the Evergreen neighborhood appear to have been making an impact.

Police have increased patrols in the area and paying officers overtime to work on their days off to help the short-staffed department address the burglaries in Evergreen -- which were spiraling out of control.

In February, police reported about 20 burglaries in the area -- down from more than 90 incidents in September.

Residents welcome the great news, but are now wondering how the department plans to keep it up.

"I hope so because the summer is going to come and I'm pretty sure they're going to kick in again," said Evergreen-resident Maria Hernandez, referring to burglaries.

It is not known how long police plan to continue the overtime patrols in the area.
