An overturned tanker that spilled fuel has closed state Highway 1 north of Jenner, a community in Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to a report of the overturned tanker in the area of the 14000 block of state Highway 1 shortly before 8:30 a.m Sunday., CHP officials said.
No injuries were reported.
According to the Monte Rio Fire Department, nearly 9,000 gallons of gas leaked out near Jenner--and a lot of it when down a hill straight into the ocean.
Multiple hazardous materials crews have responded to the scene to clean up the fuel, according to the CHP.
A Sig-alert was issued at 11:43 a.m. closing Highway 1 in both directions. The roadway is estimated to reopen around midnight, CHP officials said.
