PG&E Bringing SmartMeters to Marina District

Pacific Gas and Electric is to begin installing its wireless SmartMeters, starting in the Marina district, in the next few weeks, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

PG&E sent out letters to Marina residents on Tuesday, notifying them of the upcoming change.

In the upcoming months, PG&E plans to install 620,000 meters in San Francisco, with about 7.3 million already in use elsewhere in Northern and Central California.

Critics of the SmartMeters question the accuracy and safety of the devices.

PG&E has a series of informational hearings scheduled in the near future for Marina residents to voice any questions or concerns pertaining to the new meters.

PG&E's informational meetings for Marina residents will be held tonight, Tuesday through next Thursday, and Jan. 29 at 1593 North Point St. in San Francisco, with each meeting scheduled to last from 4 to 7 p.m.
