Palo Alto Burglar Caught at End of Rappelling Rope

A man was arrested after rappelling into a market -- after hours.

A daredevil would-be burglar was caught attempting to rappel into a Palo Alto market using a satellite dish cable, according to reports.

The Palo Alto Daily News reports that Gustavo Alvarez, 31, was arrested at JJ&F Market on College Avenue at 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday night. Alvarez broke a skylight and had descended to the floor of the market when an alarm sounded, the newspaper reported.

Alvarez fled the store and leapt a barbed-wire fence before police found him "hiding behind a tree," the newspaper reported.

He did not manage to steal anything, police said.
