NBC Philadelphia

A paraglider died after falling in Walnut Creek Sunday.

A paraglider was killed in an accident in the Lime Ridge Open Space area Sunday night, according to Walnut Creek police.

The accident was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the open space area south of Ygnacio Valley Road, according to Lt. Lanny Edwards.

The victim was extracted from the accident site with the help of a California Highway Patrol helicopter and taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for treatment, but did not survive the injuries, Edwards said.

Other paragliders witnessed the fall, and no foul play is suspected, Edwards said.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Contra Costa County coroner's office.
