Park Ranger Falls 50 Feet Into Ravine

Calif. park ranger injured after plunge in ravine

A San Francisco Bay area park ranger is in the hospital recovering from injuries after plunging 50 feet into a ravine.

East Bay Regional Park District spokeswoman Shelly Lewis says emergency crews pulled the officer out of the ravine in Alamo late Sunday.

Lewis says the officer was investigating the area Sunday night after a person from the neighborhood reported hearing someone screaming.

The officer was kept in a local hospital overnight for observation after suffering moderate injuries. He was expected to be released on Monday.

The Contra Costa Times reports that rescuers used a helicopter equipped with a large spotlight to illuminate the steep terrain as they searched for the officer.
