Santa Rosa police said Wednesday a suspect in the Dec. 22 robbery of a Washington Mutual Bank in that city is also suspected of robbing a San Rafael credit union and a Palo Alto bank last month.

A 45-year-old San Francisco man suffering from what investigators call "psychiatric issues" is charged with murder in a bizarre attack in a San Franciso parking garage.

Investigators say Peter Fong killed 59-year-old Ryosuke Yoshioka on Wednesday afternoon, lunging at him with a knife with no warning.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the attack nearly decapitated Yoshioka, who died at the scene.

The attack happened in the parking garage above the OfficeMax at 3700 Geary Blvd. at about 2:45  p.m.

People who witnessed the attack were able to detain Fong inside the garage until police arrived and arrested him.

"We're not entirely sure what provoked the incident," Assistant District Attorney George Butterworth  said Friday.

Fong appears not to have known  the victim and has no criminal history, he added.

Fong is due back in court  Monday.

  • SF_expats Monday, Jan 12 at 1:39 PM FLAG COMMENT To "Blue Mountain", I understand that you appear to have been profoundly affected by events long in the past... but PLEASE HAVE A HEART for the Family!!!!! You have posted almost verbatim on at least 1 other site this vitriol about the late Mr. Yoshioka. I was a female employee at Sushi Man, and never experienced anything close to what you describe. Yes he was very old fashioned as a boss, but my pay was fair, personal rela ... MORE >
  • Anonymous Saturday, Jan 10 at 3:21 PM FLAG COMMENT Well whatever 15 yrs ago or not, he was obviously an evil man with a lot of rage to almost decapitate a person. May he live with his guilt and shame both on him and his family name for the rest of his life behind bars.
  • Anonymous Saturday, Jan 10 at 5:02 AM FLAG COMMENT There's got to be a link somewhere but only he knows why. The authorities will determine as well as the mental health services. Mentally ill or not he'll need help. It's a sad state of affairs that you can't even go into a garage and walk freely without looking around your shoulder or be afraid of your own shadow. My sympathies to both sides of the people involved.
  • PRIVATE Friday, Jan 9 at 9:36 PM FLAG COMMENT well, that's my firend's father you are talking about and that was fifteen years ago too. I dont know what experience you had with mr. yoshioka, but you should defintely call anyone a horrible person. the man has no relation either so what help would the employees provide?
  • BLUE MOUNTAIN Friday, Jan 9 at 2:58 PM FLAG COMMENT About 15 years ago, I briefly worked at Sushi-man restaurant as a waiter when I was a college student. I don't want to speak evil of a dead person, but I can recall that Mr. Yoshioka was a horrible human being. Especially, he hated Chinese people, whom he had business with, in Chinatown. And he treated his employees like animals. Low wages and long hours . I suggest SFPD to question former employees about past troubles with Mr ... MORE >
