A 62-year-old man was killed Monday night by a vehicle near James Lick High School in San Jose - the 15th traffic fatality of the year and the second in one day.
Of the 15, the man is the 10th pedestrian or cyclist killed in the city this year, police said.
San Jose police spokesman Albert Morales said the man was walking at the intersection of White Road and Madeleine Drive about 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 43-year-old driver, who fully cooperated and is not under arrest.
The man's death follows on the heels of a fatal bicycle accident near Silver Creek High School in San Jose about 7:35 a.m. on Monday.
Andy Martinez, 15, a student at Silver Creek High, was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck about Silver Creek Road and East Capitol Expressway, according to San Jose police officer Albert Morales. The teen was riding a "fixie," or a fixed-gear bike by Pure Fix, which are really fast and good for tricks. Some fixie bikes don't have brakes, and the cyclists pedal backwards to stop. Thisteen's bicycle had one brake.
The teen was taken to a hospital, where Morales said he died about 8:10 a.m. Morales added that the boy was not wearing a helmet.

Last week, a Silver Lexus SUV was driving westbound on Bluefield Drive in San Jose near Parkview Elementary when it struck 5-year-old Aileen Quiroz Chavez, killing her.
Her 2-year-old sister, Arlet, and their Aunt Maria Alana were struck as well. Both were taken to a hospital, though the toddler was released by Wednesday.
