Woman Killed in Walnut Creek Identified

Sherry Hicks, 52, of Santa Barbara was a teacher and on vacation in the Bay Area.

The woman killed by a pickup truck Saturday while standing on a sidewalk in Walnut Creek has been identified as Sherry Hicks, 52, of Santa Barbara.

The Contra Costa Times reports that she was a math teacher who had come to the East Bay to visit her son and new daughter-in-law.

The driver of the pickup, Hossein Tabrizi, 53, was released from the hospital Sunday morning and booked into the Martinez jail where he is expected to be charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Hicks was accompanied by three other people believed to be family members when Tabrizi's vehicle struck her before colliding with a retaining wall near North Main Street and Parkside Drive.

Another woman, thought to be the daughter-in-law, remains in critical condition while two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Lt. Lanny Edwards of Walnut Creek Police Department, Hicks died on the scene.
