A man was struck and killed Saturday night when he ran across the northbound lanes of Hesperian Boulevard in Hayward, police said.

The pedestrian, described as a white male adult, was struck on Hesperian near West Winton Avenue around 10:23 p.m., according to Sgt. Chad Olthoff.

The vehicle that struck him appears to have been traveling north on Hesperian in the second lane when the victim ran east in front of him, Olthoff said.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk, and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The driver stayed at the scene of the collision and is cooperating with investigators.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Hayward police at 510-293-7099.
